Sand lays tight so everything that normally falls, in the cracks and crevices, of gravel, will lay visibly on top of the sand...

ok so would that not make it easier to see and clean? a fish net should quite easily pick the crap up, i was getting used to the idea of sand at the bottom aswell

Well kinda, till you touch the sandy bottom and it stirs up,and you got crap and sand in the net...
You'll have to try for yourself, I do both, net the ditrus and the Vac the bottom...

ey i have a sand and i have never clean it,i got few catfish's that do it for me.

kl mate, let see some pictures when u get it and also there are few types of sand, some of them are pretty much sharp and cheap but is always better to buy one that cost more, good quality sand is important otherwise water hardness may increase and also cheap sand are sharp,If you want to buy good quality sand I would recommend you a
PETS AT HOME as they have very good quality sand and also sand may look very bright in the bag but it will get darker in the water and also remember to give it a good wash before putting it into a aquarium.
