What is difference between phantom RTC and platinum RTC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always believed phantom redtails were created by shining some kind of light on normal retails to cause the whiteness, while platinums are a genetic mutation. I am not positive and have not owned this species before as requires a much larger tank than I can provide. Hopefully someone with experience chimes in here!

A phantom is a RTC without melanin. They basically have see through skin. The pink you see is there flesh. I have 2 phantoms that are 3 inches and one shorty body phantom that’s 1.5 inches blood worms and live black worms is what I feed mine. You might have a better feeding response at night in low light that’s when mine are most active. Platinums have a more of a sheen to them when young but a grade A platinum (one with no spots on their head) looks identical imo to a phantom when larger. Both take on a yellowish color due to color enhancers in food. If not fed color enhancers they will look closer to platinum for platinums and see through/ white for phantoms. If you can’t get yours to eat after that check your water parameters they may have been very different from previous location if the fish is a new arrival.
