What is eheims equivalent to the fluval FX6? Which is better?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't find the link but when the fx5 was tested it was shown to push 57% of the rated flow when full of media.

Also the gph is around 25 more on the box compared to the 2262 fx6 is around 50 gph more on the box

2263 has 3x the capacity and is overall better IME at both bio and mech filtration.

That's just my opinion and I'd go with the 2262

Big messy dirty fish with a huge bio load will live in the tank it's filtering so In this case it will need to handle nitrates and stuff and also a big amount of waste and ammonia so would the proclaimed mechanical filtration by the fluval or the proclaimed biological filtration by the eheim be better? Im not too sure about the two filters as I haven't really seen an eheim in action and I've heard that the fx5 and 6 are just overpriced 5 gallon buckets with a pump. This is really hard for me to choose because its a lot of money to spend and I want to get the best bang for my buck I am kind of swayed toward the eheim but it kind of looks cheepey and on another forum I was reading through someone said that two aqua-clear HOB's 110s perform better than an fx5 I know I might sound dumb and annoying for being so iffy and questioning and never making up my mind but I just don't want to waste my money that's all I've read lots about the two filters so so far you guys have made me beleive that the eheim 2262 is best however out of everything I've read it seems that it's a brand war between fluval and eheim

I have an FX5 and like it. I have never used a big ehiem canister. But the 2213s are garbage.

Facts are out there though.
Ehiem converted ammonia faster at less GPH and less power consumption.

It was apparently quieter too.

The ehiem is also almost double the price though.

Not many people KNOW an FX5/6 to be better because they haven't ever owned a 2262. There is a very simple reason for this: Until recently the Eheim was way more expensive. The Fluval has gone up in price and Eheim has gone down. 2262 has more capacity and the motor can't get sand in it. I have one FX5 and 3 2262's.

The 2262 might look cheap but the thing is solid and it probably only looks cheap because it has no colored accents to add to it's overall look.
The fluvals have the colour to make it look modern but IME the parts are cheap and break easily.

The fx5 is an overpriced 5 gal bucket with a pump and was a huge waste of money when I bought them.
My 2262's are great built solid and do an excellent job.

My fish are filthy saw dust machines. Since I have been using the 2262's my tank has been much cleaner looking and saw dust free.

I also payed close to double what an fx series costs and don't regret it one bit. We get screwed up here in Canada when it comes to the price of fish related products. Actually us Canadians get screwed in general paying high prices for anything!

For the price the FX5s and FX6 is going for these days I would get a 2262.

Damnit... and the 2262 is $450 cheapest here in canuckland... and I need one for a new build.
