What is going on? My tank has gone out of control.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just ordered one of the AC110's and I'll stop at the poop-smart and a LFS to see if they have a decent price on a RENA xp3 or xp4. I work my part-time job at a marineland dealer and that is why I run all marineland products if we carried RENA I would have already had some hooked up lol.

I've read about some Magnum mods that vastly increase the biomedia capacity. Might be worth a look. Search for Magnum modification or something. I doubt Pet-Fart will have a good price on a Rena, you're better off with the AC. You can probably get a cheap Rena XP on ebay.

I found a decent deal through this site, so I have an xp3 on the way too, the downside is that they both have 7 day shipping. So, I assume the tank will have completed its cycle by then.

In the end, I will leave the HOT mag and Mag 350 on there, add the xp3, and ac110 and if there is room I'll leave the cheap cascade on for good measure.

Now you're cookin' with gas!

If it's through Fostersmith.com and you just ordered it today it'll ship tomorrow and hopefully you'll have it Saturday. I know it says 7-day but it never takes that long. If you can get cycled media you've just made your job 90% easier.

As I mentioned I have 9 tanks that I can borrow established media from, and a friend of mine is changing his media today and will bring the old over tonight.

I'm excited that they should be here by saturday!

Ok, I just got home and checked on the tank, everyone is still alive. I pulled some sponge insterts from some of my other tanks and wrung them out in front of the filter intakes of the two filters that I cleaned originally. These sponges were really brown and full of gooey BB goodness. I hope that speeds things up quite a bit. My next step will be a massive water change.

I decided to do a pre-water change ammonia test and my results are <.5 so an improvement from yesterday, although the water is still cloudy.

An update on that ID shark, it appears as though something far worse happened to my ID shark than some skin irritation. Someone in the tank he was formerly residing in must have attacked him. I thought he was swimming around with his mouth open, actually, he has had the skin just below his mouth torn open, it is pretty gruesome. He is in a QT tank, with maracyn and coppersafe. He is swimming normally, and appears quite happy, but I don't know how he could eat, since anything that goes in his mouth would probably come out the hole where his throat was. What a mess... All these things happening at once have got me feeling like a noob all over again. Somewhat of a reality check for me since I've gotten so far in the hobby over the last couple of years without many of these bad things happening.
