What is growing in my filter??

I had this on a used wet/dry I bought, I cleaned it all off a little grew back, doesn't seem to be harmful in any way. I'd like to know too

They could be aquatic midges. They usually do not live in a tank because fish chomp on them.

those are alien spores growing on the side of the basket. an alien race is plotting to invade the tank.

Okay Its either some kind of microbial colonization or it could just be poop/dirt/sludge scum that looks like something growing when in actuality its how it formed/shaped as water constantly ran over it as it collected. OR like I said, its hydrofoliageacronebiusrudgea bunches.
