Thanks guys, and yeah I Moved to Canada a few months ago I just forgot to update my location data on here lol.
Unfortunately I only have crappy cell pics. I am turning all the lights off now to let the gar get used to his new home. gar is around 16" by my judgement. Unfortunately my chocolate cichlid seems to be fascinated with nipping the gars nose tip. the gar doesn't seem to be damaged he just doesn't like it much. He did this to my GG when he was new too. The chocolate is the dominant fish of the tank and I guess he likes to hassel the new guy.
Do you guys think this behaviour should stop relatively soon as its a dominance thing? he stopped harassing the gourami after a day or so.
either way here are what crappy pictures I managed to get on my phone. my tank is low lighting for my bichirs and clown knife to be more active, that coupled with a crappy phone means the pictures are kind of vague...

There were 3 of them at the store, two of them were skinnier and they had large blotchier marks. I chose this one cause it was the fattest (good eater) and had a nice goldenny sheen to the top of him. He also doesn't have small speckles on his tail and fins like a florida gar has. needless to say he was quite unique looking so thats why I picked him
