bull its because they are illeagl in the States,if they were legal then everyone would be on about the cost
It the old forbiden fruit syndrome they want them because they can't have them much like snakeheads pure plian and simple -Anne

Such a bad reply.... (IMO)

In places where they are legal, everyone has one. They are super popular over in singapore where they ARE legal.

I think its more then just a "good luck thing"

i love gold i had a Full Gold Malaysian Golden Arowana ,it was gold from the tip of its barbel too its tail

Asian aros are completely different than keeping other species of arowana.

You buy a silver, black or jardini and as it ages, it just gets larger, not much obvious physical difference....

Asian aros on the other hand take a lot of patience and skill to groom into a fine specimen. You buy a juvenile asian aro and it looks super bland... but the years of care and patience you put into raising it pays off at the end because it looks like a completely different fish. Not only that, it is much harder to pick out a juvenile asian aro with potential... you look at a tank full of silvers, you can close your eyes and pick one and as an adult it will look 90% the same as the other ones in the tank. Try that with a tank full of juvenile Super reds and you will get adults that range every shade of orange and red not to mention different core scale colors/rim thickness, color development and intensity.

Asian aros are about the satisfaction of raising it and the patience it takes to groom it into a beautiful fish...

Agreed, though that reasoning only applies to the upper grade aro's...there's not much you can do with a Green or a Banjar, is there?

My girlfriend says the same thing
its not about the "beauty" like pretty colour tetras have.

although some are really nice in colour.

i love aros, there is something about them.I have 15 inch dat, Polypterus, community tanks, flagtails,
but aros are still my fav, i have a jar and a asian 1.5 red. Will get a higher grade soon!:D hopefully anyways.

something about how they swim, how they are so dominant. how they eat, hunt. how they behave.
to me, they are the ultimate fish.

i dont get as much joy out of my dat than my aro, i can watch my aro alot longer than my dat!

it cannot be explained, its either you like them or you dont.

my girl thinks they are ugly as hell:D

i like em for the form. long barbs to the spoon head and the round fins. not to much not to little. the color variations are personal taste IMO. and they're also very elegant when they swim, its almost like they're strutting their stuff. ;). in short THEY IS GANGSTA!

i also had the same predicament with datnoids.. but to each his own
