Plecos are like Crenicichla to me and others...sometimes there is always gonna be one that just will not quite fit the bill LOL
"common pleco" encompasses about 20 separate species, including the gibby. this is 100% not a gibby. if i had to guess i'd say it is a juvenile p. pardalis with stressed pattern in that picture, also usually labeled as a "common".

Gibby's are not common plecos... yes, they are as easy to get as commons but that doesn't make them a common.
you are preaching to the choir.
A pterygoplichthys pardalis, pterygoplichthys disjunctivus and a hypostomus plecostomus are accepted worldwide by any fish keeper with basic knowledge as commons.
The problem is those that don't know much. They don't need to be confused by someone labeling Gibby's, Rhinos and L001's as commons.
I understand that you understand what the plecos are. I'm sorry if you felt I was questioning your knowledge. The point I'm trying to make is the same reason I help ID fish here and that is to help 'educate' those that don't know to be able to tell what the difference is. The more people can understand at our level...the better.look, i am agreeing with you so this is kind of pointless.
