From the Iwagumi's i have seen, it is generally a group of tetras as a centerpiece and algae eaters to help clean up the tank.
oh

but only smaller tetras?

if some one did this on a LARGE scale (not me im terrible with plants) could they throw in some payaras and call it iwagumi?

schooling fish are what you want. small tetras, rasboras or barbs. fish and/or shrimp that eat algae are acceptable as well. keep it simple and don't take anything away from the aquascape. again, the rock formation is the focus. plants are secondary. fish only accent the scenery...

I think having inverts crawling on the rock would look real nice. Maybe a crayfish that won't tear up your plants.

Yes, but dwarf crayfish (Cambarellus species) won't.

o ok
but to me i feel like an iwagumi type tank would look better with expensive shrimip

but because of their size, it might ruin the scale of the scape. i'm sure they'd eat small inverts as well.

to be honest, there are strict guidelines to follow for a tank to be iwagumi style in its purest sense... following these guidelines can be very restricting

I was just thinking if the tank was HUGE and it made the payars look like dwarfs would it be ok? and so oyu MUST have small inverts in a tank like that?

I'm not interested in creating an iwagumi style set up any time soon But I plan on it
