What is "market" shrimp??

Thats very cool. Just seems like the shell might be hard to digest, ya know? But you are right, it would be that way in nature I guess.
 
for smaller fish, I'd remove the shell for safety reasons, but for large fish, there should be no serious issue
 
the shell is fine but remove the tail. maybe even the bit of shell near the tail as it is harder than the rest. if it can cut your finger it can probably cut the fish's stomach. feeding puffers on the other hand you can just toss the whole thing in because they're invincible
 
for me market shrimps are live shrimps sold in our markets (Philippines). they are inexpensive and good for my arowana as they are sold fresh.
 
I buy frozen ghost shrimps that I find at one particular market just south of Los Angeles. It cost about $2.50 for a 12oz pack.
