I'm not trying to be a smart aleck or a troll I just want to know what the attraction is to rays. I have never been around them personally so I don't know what their habits are like. Just about every picture or video I see they are on the bottom of the tank hiding under sand.

So, what is the attraction. I would really like to be educated on this. Who knows, I might even learn enough and become interested in owning some.

I am not trying to bash rays or people that own them. I just hate to be ignorant about things related to a hobby that I enjoy so much.

PERSONALITY

Do yourself a favor and get one... Then you'll understand.

they are like a dog or a cat, they recoginize you, they have thier own personalities and quarks, once you own one... you become addicted and cant stop :), mine are rarely under the sand, normally on top swimming around, only time they hide under the sand is when i am doing a water change or disturbing the water

My male liked to be hand fed. He would stick his disk out of the water like 6 inches and i could pet him and feed fish right into his mouth....lol always new when he was hungry when that disk started to stick out of the tank

They do more then just hide under sand. They climb the walls of the tank, I have driftwood that one of my rays just loves to play on like a jungle gym (climb to the top then float down, or glide to another area of the driftwood). They love to play in water currents like they are flying. They like to use the bubble disc as their personal elevator. They know their owners and know when its feeding time (just like most other fish lol) they are just really cool to watch.

Thanks everyone, a lot of information here. Seems like I didn't give them nearly enough credit.

I would but I don't think they would do well with my current occupants.
