What is the best diet for a senegal ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feed mine shrimp pellets prmarily. I've fed my smaller poly species a variety of meaty foods over the years and whatever is big enough to not be a bother eating works well. My 6+" polys won't eat bloodworms that aren't a small frozen cube any more. Lazy suckers.

Mine like frozen shrimp, and red worms (sorry, can't think of the proper name atm) that I can buy from local bait shops. For some reason your typical earthworm is unworthy of them. /shrug

However, my ornate and lapredei like large nightcrawlers as well.

Thanks , laps rule! I have not done worms as they would get nabbed out of his mouth. He usually grabs his food on the run lol he never loses a lil scrap though

They're scared of the others stealing they're food... lol...
Yup he gets pissed. I have seen him drop the food and bite one of my Red Zebra's lol. Also the one African that tried to fin nip him (A bumblebee cichlid) got struck hard it made a huge splash like a damn arapaima feeding and since then the bumblebee cichlid has been way more timid. All the fish are far too big for him to eat but I had some yellow labs breed and he went right in there nest and ate all the fry lol it all worked out I did not intend to raise the fry I got too many as it is of all kinds.
