You are right but "emporer cichlid" I believe gets used for other fish as well. I could be wrong but I know for a fact you're right.

Emporer cichlids are freakin awesome. :headbang2

That max size in that profile is a little off, in the wild it's closer to 4ft I believe..

thanks cichla..i remembered the name cause my importer had lots of stocks of those in his warehouse that he had trouble disposing of cause they get to a huge size....:)

The Emporer Cichlid is Boulengerochromis microlepis from Lake Tanganyika and I've never heard the name used for any other cichlid. It seems like the name should be reserved for Boulengerochromis microlepis because the only other cichlids that reach nearly their length are the peacock basses (South American Cichla species).

They are reportly bigger then Pbass, but I tend to disagree. With Pbass coming in at close to 3 ft on occassions and being much more heavily built, I would argue that they are more along the lines of the same lenght. Especially Tems.

What about weight? Every picture I can find, they look pretty long but not real heavy. I have seen some lunker heavy P. Bass

Boulengerochromis microlepis get close to (and might make) 4" , and are also very thick. They make Pbass and Umbis look like minnows. They are the largest cichlid hands down.
