Hey guys, was just discussing knives and max sizes etc, and these questions came up:

1. What is the largest knife?
2. What sizes do the different species max out at?

any ideas?

cheers,

Chitala sp. I believe is the largest.. this would be the family that Clown Knifes are in, and they reach up to about 3 feet.

aba aba

WHAT KIND OF FISH ARE THOSE ON YOUR PICTURE, IVE NEVER SEEN THOSE BEFORE, WHERE CAN I GET ONE??
I KNOW CLOWN KNIVES AND ROYAL CLOWN KNIVES ARE PROBALLY THE BIGGEST OF THE CAPTIVE KNIFE FISH, THEY CAN GET UP TO 40 INCHES IN LENGHT, IVE PERSONALLY SEEN SOME HUGE ONES PROBALLY CLOSE TO THAT SIZE.. THATS WHAT STARTED MY COLLECTION OF PREDATORY FRESHWATER FISH..

Well it sort of depends on what you class as knife fish,
The largest True knife is the electric eel, recorded at 100" long, next comes the aba aba (a bony tongue, not a true knife) at 67", then the Chitala lopis (a featherfin, not a true knife), followed by the true knife Apteronotus magdaleninsis at 52", and the longtail glass knife Stenopygus macrurus, also at 52".

actually the electric eel would be classified as the largest KNIFEFISH topping out at somewhere near 7ft.

Dude those are bichirs but im not sure which ones they are though....its could be a Delhezi or a The congo ones that grows really big or the smaller version of it.Look it up on google and see which pic resembles the one in that guys avatar.=) They are very cool to keep but the thing is that they are escape artist so keep a very tight hood with no hole to have them.
