what is the ave. size of CK's in tanks, like of the 125 gal variety?
An average tank size for a large clown knife should easily be 300G. Most hit 2 feet and a bit larger. TLkmDN has a 3 foot or so specimen in his pond.

I have a 4 yr old 22" Golden CK. I wonder how big he will get after seeing that picture from Ted.... Anybody else got a gold??

I have a 22 inch CK as well. Except he just turned 20 years old this year. I bought him in 1987.

wow hes the same age as my wife :D
amazing, have any photos of him?

Bought him when I was 15. He was about 2 inches long.

Had him in a well planted 110 with a few African Cichlids that are too fast for him. The tank looked like hell. He wouldn't let a pleco anywhere near his side of the tank and thus the algae got out of control. Not much room in there either for him to swim.

So, I finally put him in a retirement home. Got him a 75 gallon with just a piece of wood and a big amazon sword to hide behind. He has much more room now. He is much more active too. Is actually eating gold fish again. See he has cataracts and couldn't get them in the 110. Not sure if it's cruel to put him in a smaller tank but I just can't go bigger. Got my first kid due in April and have other priorities. I will post a pic when I get home. Don't have access to image shack here at work....

but don't forget about the electric eel, that is a member of the knife family. i have seen specimens reaching 8 foot in length. and they are probably bigger in the wild

I hope mine will live that long, looking for a gold one. My other one died unfortunately:cry:, long story. He's beautiful . He doesn't look cramped either. Way to go!:headbang2

I had to pull the amazon sword out. The algae was growing big time and the sail fin pleco I have in there wasn't takin care of bidness. I've been leaving the light off so that the algae will die. Put that sword back into my 110. Put another big piece of driftwood in that spot. Still, it's all about maximum swimming space....
