Why does the fact that it's farm raised, make everyone think that wild caught is more expensive?
After you add in the money it takes to breed, feed, and house the fish till it reaches a desired size it's more money.
I guess it depends on the supplier you are getting ripped off from.
youre not taking into account the ridiculous import/export/customs/shipping fees that have to be paid. and when youre bring in a relatively small group of fish, this makes the price for each fish jump a lot.

farm bred fish are produced by the thousands, so costs of housing/feeding, etc is spread thin between all fish, and all types of fish, not just cichla

I can get wild caught mono's right now for $12. when I hear people paying $20 or even $30 it just makes me feel for them.

The cost works out to be the same.

who selling monos for $30? and i dont believe all these baby cichla floating around are truly wild caught anyways, but thats a whole other story

I was just throwing that out there as an example of what some will pay for the "wild caught" sticker.

Some people think they have to pay that much just cause it's wild caught and thats just not the case with alot of fish.
My LFS gets their Pbass from varius suppliers in South America. I know this cause everytime they get shipments in(tues nights) I am usually there to see the new arrivals and the shipping tags are on the boxes so I figure they are wild caught, but that might not be.

yeah like even all these orinos/azuls that came in. i dont think theyre truly wild caught, i think theyre bred domestically, in south america. thing is, when you want some of the harder to find species, you wont find them farm bred. you gotta go to the people that can bring them in, straight from the rivers out there. and that costs $$$$

it depends on how loaded you are, and if so, there all cheap......
