What is the difference Between a GT and a fake GT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i understand what your saying i just see the words as similar enough. false or fake to me its the same monster to confuse people. to say its not really fake and its truly a false GT or any species for that matter is apples to apples IMO.

There is no fake GT, only three similar fish that at one time were thought to be the same fish and now are just referred to as green terror.

Gold and Silver (aka white) Saum are almost identical save for the seam (Saum) which appears either reddish orange or white. The 'original' fish has a white sseam but the scale patterns are inverted as compared with the Saums.

Also, from my stand point anyways, the gold seems most common followed by the white and then the 'original'. I have heard a lot of people though say that they like the gold saum the most and so this may be why it is so common.

true gts have white fins and dont have same dark spots as false gts, the false gts have yellow swimming fins, and false gts grow a lil bigger than trues.

true gts are also super aggressive fish, false gts can be mean too but not too much compared to the real ones... hope i made it clear, in short term we like false gts better NOT the blue acaras blue acaras are totally dif fish, false gts grow smaller/less aggressiveness and have almost a little bit more color than the real ones and r easier to find and cheaper

They're just common names. The vast majority of people know the common green terror as green terror cichlid. Claiming it isn't really the "real green terror" is silly.

Thanks everybody sorry for saying "fake" instead of "false". yea i have a gold saum. He is very good looking he is still young though. So thanks for all the help!

It's about the scales. Not the fins.

Personally I think it's the prettiest of all three :)

Gold and Silver Saums are the same fish - A. aequinoctalis. It can have red, orange, yellow or white "edge" (Saum). If by 'original' you mean A. rivulatus, you've got the wrong fish. It's A. stalsbergi that has the inverted pattern (blue scales on dark background, as opposed to dark scales on blue background). A. stalsbergi was the original "Silver Saum" but it wasnt the original GT. A. rivulatus was the original GT. A. rivulatus has dark scales on a white background (and white fin-edges).
