from the posts on arofanatics,it seems like many of them were already about a foot in 2005,so its possible they could be close to 3.5 years old even?
they usually reach about a foot intheir first year right?

it's hard to say. my spotted gar got to 17" in a year! i really don't think we can assume anything just yet. wait a while for those w experience w juvy cubans to chime in. i wouldn't put it past them to be only 3yrs old. but for all we know their growths might have been inhibited by the lfs/supplier. we can't really infer much from what i've come up with; there's just too much gray area. and i've really had to bug some of these guys to pass me the info. they don't really bother much about specific water conditions etc either. many cubans went into ponds within a year or so. and it's essentially impossible to get anymore into the country to experiment.

i see...
however, like you said, the 5 year old ones in america are still 18 inches whereas the 2 year old plus ones in singapore are 20 inches.
so i dont think we can really follow the growth of the small ones in america.
and i dont think theres anyone from singapore on here who has kept small cubans.
when you say they dont really bother about water conitions, you mean here in singapore?
and the cubans in singapore still grew quicker than those in the US?

i think its possible to get small ones into singapore.
if more people here would be interested in these fishes.

i meant that they don't measure water parameters.

there is little demand and even less supply. plus a ban on importing them by the AVA. and the few who want them aren't willing or able to pay even if small ones were available.

i see.
i forgot about the ban.
and youre right, most people cant even afford to get cubans,or dont see the point in spending that much in a cuban.

(i think we should stop derailing the thread.sorry.:D)
