What is the key in keeping a barebottom tank that is not cloudy? I have been trying for a long time but everytime, my tank ends up getting cloudy after a few days. I feed only as much as my fish can eat in 2 minutes.

My setup
135 gal tank
jebo 5 ply canister filter
powerhead
inhabitants-red devil, 3 datnoids,1 flagtail,1 endli bichir,1 senegal bichir,1 xl comet goldfish

please give me advice as I am about to give up barebottom..:(

how often do you change your water? and how much bio media do you have?

Key for me is adequate turnover. My 90 gallon is barebottom and never has a spec of debris on it. The bichirs help stir up whatever may end up on the bottom but nothing ever does.

Its a 48X18 footprint but its got a fluval 405 an AC110 and an eheim 2215 as well as the 18 watt turbo twist attached to an aquaclear 50 powerhead which also stirs up the bottom. I dont ever vacuum anything off the bottom let alone find anything to vaccum im happy :)

As far as your water being cloudy... What are the parameters how old is it ? What are you feeding ?

You should test your water for ammonia and nitrite. Being a barebottom it could be that you are lacking in area for your bacteria to grow.

It sounds like you don't have enough filtration. What's the flow rate of your canister?
I have a barebottom 60g and I have 3 filters on it that turn the water over 20x per hour. My water is always clear too.

If you have a BB tank, the current should be strong enough to blow up any leftover food/turds and sweep them into your filters. If leftover food stays still in a BB tank, it means the current and filtration isn't strong enough or you have too many big decorations getting in the way.

more filtration

Why would you piss off your fish with a bare bottom tank.

that would scare the hell out of a fish the bottom is basicly a mirror
