lol....i hate these threads

I agree, it generally isn't about which cichlid it is, it more about the sitsuation the fish is put in. If you put most any larger SA/CA cichlid in a tank that is smaller then it's natural territory and then add another fish, most likely the other fish will not survive.

So either provide the right amount of tank space each fish needs or overcrowd so that no individual fish can establish a territory.

IMO...you guys that are out looking for the meanest fish you can find, is the same mentality that Michael Vick has with dogs.

So far what i have noticed is the Black belts are pretty nasty right from the time they are about an inch.. my red devils grew out with african cichlids .. never hurt one of them.. when they got to be almost 3 inches i took them out just to be safe.. my green terrors are still mixed in with africans ..both the male terror and his daughter are with africans in separate tanks.. sweet fish.. always have been.. the male terror is in love with the Oscar and out side of throwing him self at her and making himself look foolish he is harmless.. the little black belts however are the terrors.. first one constantly chasing the other in the quarenteen tank.. now they are in the 125gal and on occasion i see them trying to chase fish 3x's their size {and i was worried about them} :D

dovii(wolf) or RD

My Midas has always ruled my tank. My Dovii was 10in. when my Midas was 12in. My Flower Horns (Snake Skin & Blue Dragon) were 12in. when my Midas was 14in. But even with my experience I think the Wolf (Dovii) or Jaguar are the meanest. The Wolf is specialized for preying on other cichlids. It would be very hard for any cichlid to stand up to another cichlid that has evolved to eat it. And in the wild the Jaguar/Aztec is known to not just go after but eat fish much larger than itself.

I think there is a lot of romantic exaggerating about the carnivory of this fish. Here in Costa Rica we are working on the commercial growout of the Dovis for the human table. They eat very well trout pellets and that's how we raise them. The males attain about 450 g in one year. As predators, Dovis predate more on small fish, they are not able to catch fish almost as big as themselves, like the P. managuense does. They are also much less aggressive than the Managuense and this is a plus for commercial growing.

I have had devils and dovvii but until i got my green terror i never thought a fish could make you bleed. Not to mention the money i have spent trying to find him a tankmate just to come in and see eyeballs floating

try a grammode. mine is 4 inches and will try to go after my 6 and 9 inch jags. he will back down my 5 inch uros. hes not afraid of anyone no matter how big. he gets right up in the jags face flaring his gills then the jag charges running him the other way. quite funny actually
