I'm pretty new with cichlids. What type of Geophagus do you think are very colorful and beautiful? and can I mix them with datnoids and bichirs? (given the fact that the size is the same). Hopefully you guys can also post some pictures. thanks!
geophagus brasiliensis is one of the most common geophagus and are also very pretty when they get bigger. they also get to a decent size, around 9-10" so would fare ok with dats and bichirs. there are a lot of other choices too. if you're willing to pay shipping you could check www.tangledupincichlids.com. Jeff Rapps always has some nice Geophagus in stock.
My fav. is either Geo. surinamasis or Geo. sp. 'red head tapajos'...both are spectacular fish, as well as get along fairly well with the dats. You would have to get larger Geos than the dats to start out with though, as they will grow much slower than your dats for sure.

thank you guys for the much info needed... i'm a fickle minded aquatic hobbiest that loves nice color and variety as long as they don't kill each other... can i mix the tapajos and surinamasis? any special care i need to know? i usually see people have sand... and i have gravel on mine.. would that be fine. =)
