Since tank size was mentioned, I'd recommend upgrading to a tank of at least 120x45cm ASAP. The ladder loaches need at least that size of tank long term.

I'd still recommend something like silica sand (since even with gravel that fine, loaches can't shift through their gills and detritus may still get in between grains). But as gravel goes, that's a better choice than many others.
Mine is gravel mixed with crushed coral.
