etc it contributes to the overall feel of the site, but those posts sure chew up space and make it difficult to read all 93 pages of a thread in one go. Are you really that concerned with your ranking on here? It's more just for fun than anything else. Personally, I like to see my "ranking" move up as I contribute more and more to these boards.snickers;1944167; said:What i don't get is why a rank structure would be based on posts alone. I see so many posts that don't contribute anything much.
What does 'bump' mean? I understand that it's nice to see if people read your post and when they respond with something like that or a LOLetc it contributes to the overall feel of the site, but those posts sure chew up space and make it difficult to read all 93 pages of a thread in one go.
Thus a rank system that 'rewards' people for clogging up the system seems weird. The 'puter knows when I'm on here, it welcomes me and tells me when I was last here etc. I reckon there's a better system by which to rank people, unless of course it's really only another thing to confuse us newbs.
I don't know why, but this post just made me smile. Kudos to you on a job well done.snickers;1944942; said:Nope, I'm not concerned for my reputation, but like other newbs, I didn't really know what it was all about.
I'm all for fun little gimmicks that make a site friendly and that motivate you to be an active member. If that's the intent though it makes sense to publicise it. One of the hardest things for a new member is just working out what goes on, how to be involved and what to do to enjoy the site. When no one tells you what's going, the fun things can be lost to new members. Then there's a risk they isolate you from the site rather than helping you feel included.
Then again, I can tend to be too serious about some things. You may not believe it, but some people even think that about my interest in fishies. That's just me, take the good with the bad.
Another problem I have is that I talk too much. SOmetimes I even write too much. Then reading through my posts is even worse than reading a dozen 'bump's and 'cool's.
I'm learning to love and let love.
