If you have good filtration and it's a good setup with lots of hiding spots, then yes.

I might be mistaken but aren't there glass knife fish that only stay a few inches. They are not true knife fish but are similar if I remember correctly. Maybe my LFS had them labeled wrong though....

EDIT: just looked them up and they grow to 16" I thought they stayed much smaller, sorry.
