What's the smallest species of ATF?
Recommended tank size?
Potential tank mates?

it's the hydrocynus forskalii. I believe it only reaches about 18 inches in the wild. They probably only get 12 inches or so in captivity. A fellew member had one for 2 or 3 years and it is a good 12 inches or so. they grow pretty slow. A 240 gallon is ideal but bigger the better.

For tankmates, I definately wouldn't suggest silvery fish. ATFs loves to attack silvery fish. You can have some large tough fish such as aros but there might be some aggression. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not. Trial and error. Some large bottom dwellers will be good too such as bichirs or catfish. Make sure that the cat can't swallow the ATF!

Just make sure the tank mates aren't too big or aren't too small. If the tank mates are big, it might eat the ATF. If it is too small, the ATF might eat that fish.

Hope it helps.

Fatf is the smallest. Alone in a 180gal for life. In a group 240gal+. They are just fine with the tarpon I have mine with. They get the teeth like a gatf and the colors of the vatf. Can't bet the 18" max size. Like every pres tank mates are trial and error. I personally wouldn't recommend arowana, but several members have the mix work, I have not. Your lucky because several people including myself have fatf for sale right now.

Fatf is indeed the smallest species. The guys above me have done a wonderful job of summing it up for you.

Thanks everyone! im now debating with myself on whether I should stick with the idea of a nice large variety of stock or whether I should go and make it a ATF tank

Mine are 4-5" and $125. They are eating bloodworms and hitting pellets now and then. The last one I sold has been doing great for the guy that got it. Took guppies 10mins out of the box. Shipping is $45 to anywhere in the continental us.

Good luck with the ideas. I have had aros, pbass, tarpon, catfish, rays and several other fish work with atf. I have also had them all fail with atf.
