Bad feeders can lead to illness for sure, but they are beneficial as well when they are young. In most cases if you are keeping your water at 87 degrees MOST parasite problems shouldnt be an issue. I feel like the best converting does start at a young age. I think introducing frozen bloodworms in the 2-3 inch range helps out alot later on as far as converting too.

I keep my tank at around 84* as a happy medium since it have dats as well.
