I have been treating the tank this tank for ich but am starting to think this isn't ich. My LFS suggested it could be "encapsulated parrasites" and suggested using "cloat" but wanted to ask you guys before I do. I am not good with diseases because I honestly have not encountered many...

Week one I treated with 1 tspn/gallon aquarium salt, temp = 86.
Week two continued the above and treated tank volume with Malachite Green.
Week three continued both of the above.

None of the above has made a difference. WTF guys, please give some advice. :wall: Check the tail and pectoral fins in the below shots for what I am talking about.

**click on the pics to zoom in** they are super high res.

It does look like ich to me, too. Very strange it hasn't gone away in 3 wks. It certainly won't hurt to use PraziPro or something along those lines. I'm not sure what's in Clout but it's another common parasite med.

Water perams 0 ammo, 0 nitrite and since I am doing a WC every 3 days since I started treating I didn't bother testing the nitrate...

The spots have not spread to my other fish, it showed first on the myersi, spread to the green severum pair within the first week. It has not spread to any other fish during the remaining three weeks. I just posted pics of my psittacus in the photo lounge that of pics that were taken at the same time/tank as these pics.

It has not gotten worse but the spots will not go away.

Any info on that? How did they develope? How to cure them? Will it spread to others if I stop treating etc...?

It sure looks like ich. 1tsp/gal isn't really a high enough salt concentration. Most sources recommend 2tsp/gal, and I've used as high as 3tsp/gal. Since you are also doing frequent water changes, you have to make sure you are replacing the correct amount of salt with each change. Clout is a mixture of malachite green + metronidazole, by the way.

I have no problem upping the salt content to 2 tspns/galon if you guys think that will help? When doing my water changes I take out 50 gallons, dechlor, add 50 back in and mix in the malachite green/salt for the 50 gallons as I am replacing it.

I am no rookie but will admit I haven't dealt with ich in a couple years. So is this ich or cysts?

When you use salt, are you also increasing temp? I used the heat and salt method in this post and cleared up ich within a week on my GT:

It does look like ich, but then, the "grains" are a little larger than what I saw on my GT. So, I'm not sure. But I do know that you need to be using twice as much salt as you're using, and increasing temp to 84 or so, in order for the salt treatment to be effective.

The temp has been study at 86 degrees since I started. I must have missed the amount of salt to use because I thought I had it. Thanks for providing that liink. It's been a while but from my memory, I agree, the grains were much smaller. The larger male sev in the picture about is 7" for reference.
