i would guess yellow lab... some African cichlid

rule of thumb, dont mix africans with ca/sa. but....... i have a 3in african that survived 3 florida gars, when i moved them out, i put a texas and lowgrade fh in (not realizing that this little guy was hiding the whole time), so now i have 1 small 3in african in with 8" texas, 6" fh, and 4 jacks ranging from 3-8". not real sure why hes alive.... but yea, just by the pics it looks like you may have a 55g tank, which would be perfect for an african set up

^^ That will not work out, sorry to say.... CA and african do not mix well at all

In all honesty, they usually work out just fine, especially if it was an african from petsmart/petco etc. They are born/raised in the same water as CA/SAs and fed the same at all the stores.

Ive seen people mix them for years without issue. Its more of an aesthetic/location preference by most of us on here.

yeah i agree with VRWC, personality wise they can usually co-exist if all fish are tank raised and far from the wild, most of us just prefer not to mix the different continents' fishes. but if your tank is indeed a 55g then i think either your JD or "texas" (i prefer not to use this term do you know if it is a carpintis or cyanoguttatus?) will claim that tank as their own when they get older, unless they are maybe male and female and then they may pair up but then they will most likely kill the little african

but WELCOME to MFK, the addiction only grows from here :)
