what is this fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1. Catfish should actually be termed "bottom dweller" not "bottom feeders" since they are more predatory than they are scavengers
Ya, when we fish for Channels and Flatheads, we always suspend our bait 18" OFF the bottom or so......I have some spots where you can NOT use a weight at all, so we just drift live baitfish in the strong current and get both species of cats the exact same way you would drift for Bass or other Gamefish. Onlookers are usually perplexed seeing this and many people will reply "You're getting catfish like THAT???!!!"

......and i always say, "Yup, I always said they are predators, and everyone I catch proves it more and more"

Why do you think a big grasshopper/locust fished in rapids on a BOBBER will catch so many catfish?

xraycer xraycer - my Channel in my tank ONLY surface feeds from what I observe......he doesn't even bother with live earthworms believe it or not......but he comes to the surface for pellets and swims with his mouth gaping like a Baleen Whale, slurping up 20+ at a time.

U can catch cats in 12" of water at night, right along the banks

My bullhead goes right for the waters surface as soon as it smells food

yea, i have seen them do it in the wild, but only if there's a frenzy already going on for a while....after you catch 20 or so panfish, the Bullheads join in

You can induce it and watch/record it if you find a nice clear tributary with a deep hole in it....someplace you'd find creek chubs and fallfish

That's why diddy poles and float noodles work so well. No to mention trot lines are usually not to far under the surface.
