Definately looks like a herichthys type or at least has some in it to me as well.

You need to feed it and get it healthy for a few weeks and post pics again when it has recovered. I wouldn't be suprised if it is just a texas. Definately not a convict and I'm not sure it has any con in it. Hard to be for certain when a fish is that small and beat up/stress out.

I now have absolutely no doubt, that this fish is some type of chanchitto (Austroloheros sp.). It's body shape is consistent with a chanchitto, it's coloration, all of it's marking and stripes, the shape of it's fins, and it's eye......all are consistent with a chanchitto.

Like I mentioned before it has a < -shape to the first stripe (after the tail spot) right on the caudal peduncle. All the pictures I have looked at on the internet and in books, I find about 1/2 the Austroloheros specimens have this characteristic. Doesn't seem to be associatied with any particular species, but almost 1/2 the individuals in all the pictures I can find, exhibit this! I supose, just by chance a CA cichlid could just happen to have the same shape to it's first stripe.......but I have yet to see any on any picture!

Like I mentioned before, the fish has 4, maybe 5, anal spines. Not enough for a convict. PLus the shape of the dorsal, and especially the anal fin , are not at all consistent with a convict cichlid. Also, convicts, like other Cryptoheros speies, do not have a stripe on their caudal peduncle. The pictures of convicts posted by Aquamojo show this.....just like any other convict. I'm not trying to claim this as some kind of iron clad law, because i am sure there is always an exception, but you would be very, very, very hard pressed to find any convict, or any Crytoheros species for that matter, with this trait.
