I have a pair of wild festae that i have had for a few months now. A little while after I had got them I noticed some white cyst looking things on the females side fins only. Much bigger than ick...and only on the rays of the fin not the skin between the rays. I thought it was from the male beating on her to spawn since he really didnt have them. Now a few months later she still has them and they change...some go and new ones come...and now he has a few too. NOW I am also seeing something new mainly on him...these white pimple looking spots that are coming out from under the scales not on them. Again definitely not ick but no idea what it is. He is starting to scrape on stuff too a little. I took a few pics as best as I could of him. I might see a spot or two on the female of the new white bumps from under the scales but its worse on him. The nitrates had gotten high and caused HITH on her (not him) along with him beating on her I think but I dont think the spots are related...and the nitrates are under control now. So what does it look like to yall??? I was thinking about treating with Jungle parasite clear but dont want to treat for the wrong thing. They are also going through the motions of spawning again...id like to not harm any eggs or fry that will come of it with meds but I dont want the fish to be sick either. They are eating good (kens 5 stick blend) and breathing normal. Also there are no other fish in the tank....and when I first got them and they were not eating yeat I gave them some rosy reds from petsmart (mistake) and I think that caused them to get ick that I treated. Maybe they gave them this stuff too?

in this pic its in the middle of the body...you can also faintly see some of the white cyst on the side fins.

in this one you can see one of the cyst thing im talking about on the upper spot of his side fin. It is more bulging out the back side of the fin so its hard to get a pic of but it looks like a milky white ball under the skin, on the ray of the fin. You can also see more of those white spots around his belly area.

this shot you can see the white spots on his side pretty good.

Well I treated with parasite tabs...12 of them (120gal tank) every other day for 3 treatments and a 25% water change before each treatment. The spots on the side of him seem to be gone now but I dont know if it was from the treatment or not. They slowly went away but now in the spots where they were theres 4 or 5 scales that look off...almost look like they have a haze on those scales only at the right angle. Nothing on the scale that I can see like a fungus or anything. The spots/cyst on the side fins are still there. She kinda has a long stringy poo right now...they have had some strange looking poo at times since I had them tho so I dont know if its a symptom. He has seemed to stop eating...she doesnt eat as much...they are still going through the breeding process it seems tho. I dont know what to do next....

Well the spots are still on the rays of the fins of the parents and now im loosing some of the fry in the tank. On the fry it looks like on the edges of the tail fin is white...maybe a fungus or something? Also from time to time a white patch will appear on one of the parent fish that is about 5-6 scales big then goes away after a few days. Any idea on what I can treat with that might be a broad spectrum treatment. I dont think its any kind of parasite...perhaps bacterial or fungal?

I've just seen this thread. It looks like a systemic fungal infection that is protruding from between the scales. A good fungus treatment should sort it.

Is it Ich? Hard to tell from photos. If it is Ich, you need Parasite medication made specifically for ich. OR you can do the "natural method" (heat @ 85+, salt, daily water changes).

If its fungal, then there's a water problem (high nitrates, high ammonia). IME, fish only get fungus from water problems or AFTER a bacterial infection (which could also be caused by water problems; I have both cichlids and Koi).

For fungus, I would say use Potassium Permangenate (for the adults, pretty nasty stuff, used for Koi; can get at Lowes in the plumping dept. Labeled as filter cleaner; Apply DIRECTLY to the fungus as a paste, then allow them to go back into tank). BUT, since they're fry you might want to try: Maroxy by Mardel (don't know if they still make this), Fungus Clear by Jungle (I like their products), or do LOTS of water changes.

Wish i could be of more help.

Good luck !!!! :headbang2:headbang2

...being an internal infection (I'm almost sure), you'll need a fungicide added to the water. I would use Protozin (I only use Waterlife treatments) but there are others.

Can fungel or bacterial infections come from the tap water? I am on well water at my office where the fish are...PH out the tap is 5.5 and when I air it over night it gets stable at 7.4ish. Non of my other fish here show any crazyness of stuff on them but dont know if these guys are more touchy. My nitrates might be at 20-30 at times so maybe its that. I have treated for paracites with the paracite tabs but I dont think its that anymore. So I am kinda of looking for something I can treat the whole tank with the fry in there too. The adults for a long time now have had these white pimple looking things on there side fins...female started with them but then the male got them too. Its on the rays of the side fins and looks like its under the skin and much larger than ick. Might be part of the mess going on in the tank.

As for the fungus clear from Jungle...it says it clears this but non of which sounds like what I have on my fish...does it also clear other stuff it doesnt list or what?
