My Yellow Fin Barb has this pimple like thing on his side and I have no idea what it is or how to treat it.
It must be bothering him because he tries to scratch it off.

Argulus is a crustacean, of the class Branchiura (Fish Louse). These parasites are found on the skin and gills of fish. Argulus feed by inserting a pre-oral stylet into the skin that injects digestive enzymes, which break-down proteins, allowing the parasite to suck out body fluids. The spines, suckers, and hooks argulus use for attachment cause further irritation.

I haven't put anything new into my tank in over a year and I only feed Frozen and dry food.
My fish are super clean and I have plenty of filtration and do regular changes.

you might want to try to get the fish out of the tank and yank that sucker off...

The fish is a foot long. I don't want to mess with this monster unless I know what's going on.

maybe a paracitical egg?

Thanks for the guess but I need a definite answer from someone's who has seen this before.

I agree with Spyke.

If it's bothering him, and he's trying to scratch it off, then you need to get in there and do it yourself. It's your responsibility to do what needs to be done.

I have 2 22'' koi that I have to man handle, and I knew what I was getting into before I bought the fish.

If you don't want to handle it to get this off, maybe it's not the right fish for you?

Not trying to sound rude, but there's nothing we really can tell you without a scrape and scope for a definite diagnosis.
