I've been keeping a Retic for 7 months now. It's my first ray and I love him...I'm hooked. I noticed a while back some little bubble/bump looking things on his back in various places and was wondering what they are. My fear is that they are some sign of disease or that they are sucker marks from clown pleco that's in the tank..I've never caught him near the ray though. When I read the Barons complete guide for ray ownership book I remember the doctor taking about little round parasites that can live on stingray backs and they move but I've never seen these bumps move, however I have not tried to touch them either. Here are pictures.

could be denticles or calcium build up if you have hard water where you live.

sometimes rays will also develop what look like freckles/moles on their bodies, either singular, or groupings.

Yeah, he just has a bit of substrate on him. The bumps are the same color as his body. I'll try to get a better shot.

They stay in the same place.

Brilliant Silent Bob, thank you. Those are exactly what I'm talking about. So are they "moles"? In every way the ray is happy and healthy. Should I be worried?

So anyone have a final word on what the are?

I'm no ray expert. But ive kept fish a looong time and i am 99% sure i know what this is. I'm going with argulus or fish louse but without a better picture im staying at 99%. Look up some pictures of them and check for yourself but thats what i'm going with. I see these on goldfish and discus constantly.
