I have this weird spongy growth on the wood in my tank!

The wood has been in for 12 months but this is new!

Tank is a temperate water snakehead tank.

FX6 and Large ebay canister filtering 800 litres with 30% water changes weekly

Is growing anywhere else beside the wood?

Could be from overfeeding or uneaten food in the tank, I don't think its algae...try siphoning it all out next waterchange.

100% not overfed. 800 litre tank. Huge filtration only 4 little 6 Inch snakeheads and I change 30 percent a week. Not growing anywhere else. Just on the wood.

Also no uneaten food ever in the tank. They are fed every 2nd day and even then It's not lots. If anything Is left it is removed after 5 minutes. It's only started since I switched the tank over to cooler water which makes no sense

I would guess an aquatic slime mold of some sort. do you have a higher education institution near you? try taking a sample to the biology dept and see if anyone has a clue.
stuff like that never lasts long in my tanks, the snails find it pretty quick.

I'm not sure what it is exactly but it grew on some pieces of wood that I've had.I tried scrubbing and drying the wood but the stuff just came back shortly after putting the wood back in the tank.

Looks like freshwater sponge.

I recently lost my plec so will locate another one. Issue is as my snakeheads grow there tolerance of others will get less and less
