What is this parasite?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there is nothing wrong with fw dips. i do them to fish at the pet store all the time. along with sw dips on the fresh fish. uselly about 5 mins too. never lost one. but i have gotten a heel of a lot of parasites pulled off of fish that way (mostly flukes). fresh water dips are not going to kill a healthy fish, and if he has parasites hell be glad you did it in the end. you wont be able to see them all. most parasites dont let you know they are there. i do it to angels mostly but ya if he has one you can bet on some more.

Thanks for backing me up. I really don't understand why people don't do fw dips more often. I do them before introducing the fish to any tank. It's definately the smartest thing to do for the long run

Justin_James I salute your pioneering sprit and I thought your jelly tank was innovative ( more pic’s would have been nice- I see you got your camera back) You might have removed the only parasite --you might be in your tank again for further treatment.

For what it is worth this is how I dip my saltwater fish

1) Place filtered or bottled water in a bag/container
2) Add a buffer-I use SeaChem 8.3ph buffer additive (8.3 is the ph of a healthy tank)
3) Float container/bag in the tank for 30 min & aerate
4) Dip fish for 5 min.

I realize that some find this extreme

“Saying that a fish should have a five minute freshwater dip is probably the wrong advice to give” -----UnderwaterGirl

Not if you follow the above guidelines.
