Correct me if im wrong but is that Kenyi cichlid from africa and the convict from the americas i belive africans cant hybrid with americans.
 
its a zebra both genders have egg spots
 
and the convict cannot breed with it obviuosly
 
Most likely a hybrid mbuna. Convicts (americans) are substrate layers and Mbuna (africans) are mouthbrooders.

Yes I agree when young, they are the same color... But the fish in the pic is I believe, an adult not a juvy...

Mbunas can be tricky when identifying them bec they breed easily with closely related species... also there are many variants of the same species...
Commercial breeders can easily "unpure" the strains...

So unless you get an F0 or F1, then the shape, color, etc may look different. I personally think Mbunas are hard to identify.
