So just picked this guy up about a week or so ago and I see this ominous message. What the heck, seriously? Does anyone know the validity of this? What it is, or what would trigger the effects?

I’m pretty choked about it after hearing every one sing the praises of this product, and now I’m hesitant to even open it because my wife is prego. Has anyone here seen this before or experienced any ill effects or.....

Just do a search of California's Proposition 65 for product labeling. I've seen this or similar warning labels on faucets, plumbing supplies, my TV remote control, kitty litter boxes, etc. etc.

Nothing new IMO.

Maybe if you ground it up and breath the dust every day for 10 years.

Here's the warning on some wood axes I was looking at recently: "proposition 65 reasons: titanium dioxide, other chemicals-- This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproductive harm"

Don't know, maybe if I grind the axe head to dust and put it in my cereal, make a slurry of the finish on 200 hickory handles and drink it in my tea for a year. Otherwise, tell me how using an axe to split wood will cause cancer, birth defects, etc.

I find it rather odd that they use the word "might". If they're going to come up with a serious claim like that then they sure as hell should have done the research and tests before putting it out there. How the hell that product has got near the shelves i'll never know.

In this day and age where anyone and everyone will sue a company any chance they get, we find ourselves with labels such as these...

Kind of like having the “caution hot” on a lid for a hot beverage you ordered...

Haha. It would be rather ironic if some goon bought said hot drink, had a sip and it was only tepid, and then decided to sue the vendor for misinformation on their product! Like you said people will try anything.

In America, even if you enter a parking lot or Home Depot, there’s a cancer danger sign.
