They're fairly sedentary pounce predators. There's not much need of a body for movement so, they evolved a more efficient eating mechanism in place of a more efficient body.

Yah, not a grenadier, they don't generally have that color, or those teeth. Plus, they do kind of explode when brought up. Those have to be some of the most disgusting fish I ever had to deal with...

Especially their liver!

Their liver is dubbed 'Foie Gras of the sea'
