They're fairly sedentary pounce predators. There's not much need of a body for movement so, they evolved a more efficient eating mechanism in place of a more efficient body.
Looks like a Monkfish. Originally I was gonna say Grenadier but they are always found so deep underwater that their eyes and swim bladders inflate when brough up. Cool fish.
Yah, not a grenadier, they don't generally have that color, or those teeth. Plus, they do kind of explode when brought up. Those have to be some of the most disgusting fish I ever had to deal with...
Cool goosefish/monkfish (Lophius americanus)!!! He's holding a large species of angler and it's a female. The largest species grows to over 4 1/2 feet.
