if i had to guess i'd say it looks like the beginnings of hair algae. thats how mine looked like when the plague was starting. but i'm not an expert

Yeah ill have to do that. This could very well explain my mysterious decintegrating stem plants. Maybe this is why I have ich... maybe I should quarantine my fish for longer than a week... is this normal with fairly new planted tanks?what will get rid of hair algae? My bala shark isn't interested in it. And no more fish. I heard using a toothpick and twirling helps. Will this cure me?

start doing a 2/3 water changer once a week and if u got any plastic or cloth/fiber plants in your tank take them out soak them in vinager till the algae turns brow then rince very well

Hair algae (and that's what it looks like)does not cause ich. Ich is a ubiquitous protozoan, hair algae is a plant. The Florida (American)flag fish is said to eat hair algae.
Quarantine for a week is considered about 3 weeks too short, but..
if ich is already in your tank, quarantine won't matter.
If you vacuum the substrate every couple days, and replace the old water with new, this will go a long way to removing the nitrates and other nutrients the hair algae thrives on, and help remove ich cysts lying dormant in the substrate.

Yes but id rather not buy a fish just so it gets rid of a problem. And don't flag fish get like 14" and they have to be kept singly? Will the toothpick twirling solve this problem? And I don't have fake plants anymore. I only keep live plants. I also think my anubias is developing black beard algae. I can't get it off at all. I know about hydrogen peroxide I will be doing that soon.
