Lots of answers here, some good and most not so good. I found it in a river. Was probably dumped in the river a long time ago, as was a lot of other stuff. It's too light for a window weight, and not "fancy" enough for a clock weight or plumb.
Part of some kind of water craft maybe? Problem was, being in water, it could have come from anywhere. I have a big heavy oar lock and other heavy canoe parts that I found in a 3 inch deep stream, a few hundred yards, a dam, and two waterfalls away from anywhere canoes have access to.
