the girl at the store and the label had it as a "Pinstripe damba cichlid". But when i looked up on google what that looks like none of them look like the fish I just bought. It looked more like a Datnoid to me. In the end i took it because it was $14, so if it is a dat in the end its deff less than what it normally costs at shops in montreal. But even for a datnoid it doesn't have the same marking so I'm at a loss. Any ideas what this thing is?

It`s just not close enough to say but it`s patterned like a rock bass, and it seems to have red eyes too. Lets hope for the myersi!

I looked up this Myersi cichlid. All that i find is that it's some kind of rare cichlid that gets to about 25cm. But other than that i haven't found much other than ppl saying how pretty it is :S. What's so special about these fish? Also does this mean 14$ was a silly price to sell it at lol? I'm leaning to you guys being right because apparently it was shipped with the Colombian order the store got.

Any info on these guys? All i can find is that they hit about 1' in length. What about temperament, swimming patterns, appetite/diet? Anybody have experience with these?

I grew mine out from 1" (currently 3" TL) and will eat any sinking pellet (eating NLS 2mm sinking). Growth is less than 0.5" a month. It took at least 3 months for it to stop hiding when being fed. It doesn't have any tankmates at the moment.

$14 is a fair price for a rarely available cichlid.

They're a fairly aggressive, large-growing fish. You'll need a large tank if it's a male. It will take most prepared foods. They come from a large range of pH and temperatures in the wild so it shouldn't be too fussy about water quality. They are gape-and-suck predators so if you have any small fish, you won't for long.

Here is a good article on the genus Caquetaia by Dr. Wayne Leibel: http://www.fishchannel.com/freshwater-aquariums/species-info/cichlid/false-basketmouths.aspx
