I have a 7" black shark in my 180 gallon. He always hangs out beneath some driftwood but I noticed I hadn't seen him come out to eat in the past couple of days. Yesterday, I checked on him and he had a couple of small light spots on his tail fin. It kind of looked like those parts were transparent. I figured he scraped himself on something. When he still didn't come out of hiding tonite, I found him in his usual spot but now covered in those same spots. They're grayish looking patches covering his whole body and all fins. They're not fuzzy and when he swims under the light, the patches have a gold sheen to them. He still isn't eating and I haven't seen any other fish in the tank bothering him or showing similar symptoms. What is this and how do I treat it?

Tank parameters are fine and I've been performing twice weekly water changes of 50-75%. Within the past month I treated and retreated with levamisole hcl for callamanus worms. After the final treatment, I treated for a week with pimafix to try to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-20
Ph-7.6

The newest additions have been a 3" melanurus vieja, a 1.5" unknown vieja, and a 3" albino birchir. They are all eating normally and getting along with the other inhabitants. The shark has always kind of stayed off to himself but almost always comes out to eat.

Doesn't look like typical ich to me. Some spots do. Can you get some up close photos? Would suggest qt if the other fish are acting normal and no other fish have spots on it.

Add salt 1 tsp per gallon to the qt tank. Get some methylene blue and dip the fish. See if anyone else thinks it's more than ich.

Here are some pics from this morning. I think my black shark moonlights as a magician. He looks like nothing happened at all. I still don't know what caused the change in appearance and why he recovered so suddenly.
