Hey guys, i currently have 5 angel fish in my tank. Three of them i have had for well over a year. They are getting pretty large and i got them when they were pretty small, about quarter size. Anyway, they are SUPER nervous about everything. i cannot move infront of the tank without them huddling together underneath the driftwood terrified. Now to my other two angels..i bought another baby about 4 months ago and he seems ok, he comes up and feeds normally and isnt afraid of anything. The last angel i got about a week and a half ago. I got him from the lfs i work at and he was front and center in the store so he was used to seeing people and getting the glass tapped on and so forth so he was not scared at all...until i put him into my tank. Now he hides out with the original three and cowers in fear. Why are they doing this?

they may just be packing together on that aspect, but i would try to associate movement in front of the tank with food. just give them a few specs of food each time you come over and then walk away... mine are really friendly but its mostly because when i go to the tank, im feeding them.

Like every animal, it must be their personality. I agree with the post above me as well.

I recommend a setup that makes the fish feel secure. For instance my background is full black and I loaded the sides of my tank with plants, creating a more zen 'box' for my fish and forcing them to pay attention to me, the front of the tank.

Good luck.

what size tank are they in ? i put 6 wilds in a 125 uk gallon and the behaved like yours , so i added 6 more and this solved the problem . they must feel more secure now

i have them in a 55. here is a pic of my setup for them....
