Sounds exactly like a spinal injury. Sucks ive lost some fish to sudden blows like that. One spook and gone.

I don't see any trauma on his face/lips. Has this fish had a history of slamming into the glass hard? Not that it can't happin I'm just not sure that's what the problem is unless of course you saw him do it. Some issues can develope over night Most animals fish especially are very good at masking symptoms until they are advanced to aviod predation so untill the issue becomes sever in some cases they seem normal and all of a sudden they have and issue, it's not all that uncommon depending on what's wrong.

I never really had a problem with him slamming into the glass & I didn't see him do it. I noticed that the female jag started to get a little aggressive towards him & i wonder if she spooked him and he rammed the glass... I thought about taking her out but they were not beating each other up or nothing just a little chasing.
