What is wrong with my V Bifa lip?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it was me, I'd just wait for the sulfa based meds that you have on order. It doesn't sound like this is something that is progressing at lightning speed in your fish so another 24 hrs or less shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah I dont want to mix and I would rather use the TMP stuff I think. I still went to the lfs and was able to get my hands on 2 boxes of furan2 and one bottle of the Kanaplex (enough to at least get a first dose in) just in case the order doesnt come in tomorrow as planned.

The spots that were on the fish already dont look much worse if at all...but there is a couple other spots the are coming up on a couple other fish I think. Hard to tell if its just a spot from a fight or one of the other spots. TMP should be here today and I will dose as soon as it is.

just dosed for 120gal so fingers crossed. Tank is a standard 125 but with actual water volume being lower and displacement and the fx5 I went for 120gal.

either it got bit or some kind of parasite

At this point I think it got bit by another fish or damaged it in some way. I had recently been running De-los in the tank since they were all newer fish to rid of any parasites (I noticed a few flashing when I first got them). Now with the onset of what I now think to be Flavobacterium columnaris maybe that wound in the mouth triggered an outbreak coupled with the 80deg water I kept them at and the fact im holding all this fish for the new tank they are a bit crowded. I had been feeding heavy too as to get them nice and fat for the new tank. I will keep them at lower temps, feed less, and run a small UV (after treatment) to help keep them clean untill my tank is ready in a few weeks.

So when did your friend start to see a regression in the spots? I just dosed today's dose (4th day of 10) and the spots are not much different but I would say they are on the side of slightly worse rather than getting better. Everyone is still eating...bifas lip seems to be all better (even before I started the meds)

He is on day 9 today and all but 2 are completely clear. The 2 that still have a couple spots were a mess when he started.

Tank looks over crowded. Your fishes skin is being irritated by bad water quality. If you havent disconnected your filters when treating this tank for parasites you most likely wiped out the beneficial bacteria residing within. An easy way to stop the puffy growths on your fishes flanks is keeping the PH well over 7, and 70% weekly water changes. When water is being returned to your tank make sure to have it bounce off a rock or wood. This helps displace the chlorine which benefits the fish when doing large water changes. No chemicals are needed. Just use kosher salt for the first few water changes and reduce the amount of food used when feeding. This will allow the bacteria to build up again. Certain fish are more prone to be effected by bad water quality than others. As a matter of fact, your water quality may be perfectly fine for the RTMs but not good enough for Bifasciatums and Carpintes. This is why you can allways expect to find hardy fish at the shop like Oscars, Convicts, Red Devils and Pacus. But fish that are not so hardy ie; Altums, Carpinte, Rivulatus, and most Geophagus are found ocassionally.
