hey all

I wouls like to keep my 16-18 inch fire eel with my trio of rays. The rays are 7-12 inch range.

What is your experience with that combo (for the people who keep rays with other fish)?

The fire eel is real docile with the fish he is in with now.

Thx for the insight.

Eddie

Bin There done that. No problems at all- Fire eels are supa chill, unless a ray attacks the eel? I cant see a problem. PS - Buddy is Keeping a 22" Fire eel with 3 rays 5 - 8 Inches, Never a problem at all.

Arkangel77 Arkangel77 thanks. I figured it be OK. But I was talking to another Ray keeper and he suggested I ask. Thanks for your experience.

Anybody else have similar or opposite experience?

Mine got on fine, I just hand fed the eel, trouble is they like to escape so you need to cover all the exit areas, I thought I had but it still got out, I felt very guilty that I hadn't tried hard enough.

I think these eels move around a lot in the wild, maybe to find a mate and if leaving a pool is necessary then that's what they do, I wonder if they stress being kept to one place but I have a large tank. I wonder if a huge pool would stop them jumping out?

No worries, if you can get your thumb in a hole such as the corners at the back of the tank they will get out sooner or later in my experience, I stuffed plastic bags in to mine but he managed to push one out, if I kept them again I would glue glass or plastic over every hole and put reminders up for people to close the cover glass....I would go as far as to rig an alarm if the glass was left open, mine was growing huge and we hand fed him daily, he took whole whitebait sized fish at a time.

in my experience the fire eel will be a meal. but others def have better luck than me when it come to keeping fish with rays. even with feeding 3 times a day..

I got another friend with a 1200 gallon plywood tank. He has like 8 rays. Biggest is a WC marble pair that eat eveything.... He has a few small eels, under 10" and they are fine. He dose have a strawberry pot for them to hide in. The marbled great just a few monrhs ago. 16" eel is not small. Anything could happen I guess
