What is your experience with melafix/pimafix?

Will, there is such a thing as Professional Strength Melafix, which is 5 times more concentrated, so quicker to dose for large volumes, and is used for convenience by people in the fish trade. I don't know where or if you could get it in Canada, though - I'm UK-based.

Laboratory studies show no evidence of any ill-effects of Melafix on scaleless fishes, or on invertebrates.

i was just looking at melafix a couple weeks ago; after a large portion of my rays disc went missing. i ended up buying salt instead. however, now a small surrounding area of the missing part has become slightly lighter (white). im not sure if i still need the melafix.. but it does sounds like a very good product after hearing everyone's testimonials about it.

once there is an infection melafix won't cure it, pimafix will help, but that too leaves something to be desired. you need an anti-biotic. there are lots of wide spectrum anti-biotics and anti-fungals at the LFS. i think the most popular ones are Myacin and Myacin-2 (did i get the name right? that doesn't look right)

there's no fungus growing on her, its just white coloration around the border of the missing section

Isn't that usually a sign of a bacterial or fungal thing going on ? Best of luck man I am not sure so I am not going to diagnose it but I would strongly consider getting good professional advice about this problem .

i had a new fish arrive with torn up fins a while back ,, i chose to use melafix first to see if any improvement ,, its always good as a first option as it can be mixed with meds in the water straight away,,

if you start with a med and find you need a different med then you need to wait 2 days before introducing the second med,

melafix works for me , and i love the smell (smiles)

I was going to ask about this! I've used it a few times, and every time my fish have died, like they suffocated. I've used other meds, and never had an issue, just melafix. Perhaps I was using it wrong.

You probably needed increased aeration. (I think ! don't hold me to it just what I think probably happened)
