What is your FAVORITE big SA/CA Cichlid food ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I switched from hikari to NLS, occasional treasts of shrimp or crickets.

I use Xtreme pellets and live red wiggler worms.

I couldn't agree more that NOT feeding is a better way to promote long term health and growth than powerfeeding, cranking up the temp, etc. I try not to feed a day or two per week.

Lots more big fish die prematurely from fatty livers and obesity than from natural causes and/or 10 day power-outages...

I used 4.5mm floating Jumbo Fish formula. I feed NLS to this guy is whole life. When he was around 7" he was eating the 4.5mm mentioned about 6 pellets a day, that's it. I prefer slow steady growth with lots of water changes as opposed to what some refer to a "power feeding" to get quick accelerated growth. IMO that type of feeding put a great deal of stress on the internal organs and skeletal system. In this case slow and steady wins the race for long term health. Unfortunately I lost him during a 10 day power outage during Hurricane Sandy. I bought him when he was 2", he was about 13" when he passed.

I use Xtreme pellets and Hikari Krill three times a week. I recommend against power feeding cichlids most of the time also
