What is Your Favorite Season and Why?

I wasn't aware such long summer days.

Yes, the summer days are fantastic, but it works in the opposite way through late autumn to early spring. At it's worse in the depths of winter it doesn't come light until 8am and goes dark at around 4pm.

Obviously it all hinges on your positioning and the seasonal tilt of the earth. The northern and southern hemisphere get these swings, but towards the equator less so.

You'll hardly get any swing at all being in the Caymans, or do you?

Here where I am in the Philippines there is no swing at all. I am under 1k kilometers from the equator. Sun rises at 5:45 sets at 5:30. This makes for about 13 hours of light and 11 of dark.

I never realized how far north the UK was due to the moderate temperature in comparison with north america. For example the twin cities in Minnesota, USA which is at 44.977 N has longer winters and gets ice cold while London, at 51.507 N, higher north in latitude but may not even dip down to freezing during the cold months. Why is that?

My sister loves that part of the world, went to school in the UK and lives in Luxembourg the last 10 years. I've never even been across the pond and not sure I ever will.

25°C - 30°C - cool comfortable
30°C - 35°C - warm comfortable
35°C - 40°C - hot
40+°C - hot uncomfortable
20°C - 25°C - cool - might need a light jacket
20-°C - don't much like it

Meh...good idea, but the numbers need tweaking. I'd say:

15C to 20C - just about perfect
20C to 30C - too warm
30C and up - friggin' crazy!
5C to 15C - cool
-5C to 15C - cold comfortable
-20C to -5C - hunting cold
-30C and down - ice fishing cold!

I think you hit the nail on the head with that map, Esox. My home is actually very slightly, less than a degree, further south than London. You get the moderating influence of the ocean, combined with the actual warming effect of the Gulf Stream, so you bask in tropical luxury.

I live almost 100km north of Winnipeg, which touts itself as the geographic centre of North America. We have lots of water, including a couple of very large lakes flanking us on both sides; my region is called the Interlake. But, by and large, we are stuck out in the middle of open prairies, near the south edge of the boreal forest, right smack dab in the middle of nowhere. We get some lake-effect snow in winter, but if Lake Winnipeg actually does anything to keep us warm...well, I'd hate to think how much colder it would be without it. Winnipeg isn't sarcastically referred to as "Winterpeg" for nothing. :)

Spring is my favorite, late March through early May in my part of the world. Everything is coming to life, love all the shades of green of the new leaves, birds courting, sunshine back again, ideal temperatures, thunderstorms. Fall weather is great, but there is always a sort of depressing mood in the air. Nature is moving into the death phase of Winter, leaves falling, darkness increases, the world turns brown.

Variety is the proverbial "spice of life", including the change of seasons and each individual's preferences.

My favorite seasons are deer hunting season and fishing season. I’m a catch clean cook guy. Love providing my family with wild game and wild caught seafood. Raised in Australia, moved to the US when I was 43yo. Love adapting and modifying my approach to the places I hunt and fish.
As far as other seasons go, I love early spring and autumn/fall.

How did I know that someone was going to say that? LOL
