What is your feeding/fasting regimen? And why?

I just feed my rpb whenever. Sometimes it is a few times a week sometimes it is weekly. They feed on opportunity in nature not by schedule. When I go several days I tend to feed more when I do. I had been busy a several days at work and hadn’t seen them in almost a week in the light when they were awake. When I did I fed them a whole bluegill the size of them. They ate the whole thing and loved it. They are about 8-9 inches when I measured them last week. I really need to make a feeding video. They are the most personable rpb I have heard of and come to the glass when I walk by. Not skittish at all.

I just look at how full my puffer is before i decide to feed her... so normally every 2 to 3 days i'll feed her a meal, although some days i will wait for up to 4-5 days between feeding if she is still looking very plump...

Puffers will definitely gorge themselves if given the chance, so i tend to try and prevent that from happening...

Would fasting, regardless of how many days, successive or not - beneficial for juvenile fish (< 1 year old)?

My uneducated guess is that if I want them to grow, feed 2-3 times per day. I guess I forgot to state that all of my fish are young juveniles. 6-8 months old.

Feeding them more often might make them grow faster but it doesn't mean it is better for them. A lot has to do with the environment and proper tank size. Continuously feeding them will just make them produce more waste which will result in lower water quality. I usually feed my fish 1-2 times daily in small amounts. Enough so they have a bite but not so much where their stomachs are bloated like a balloon.

hey not to start a debate, but as in good nutrition i was told that hikari wasnt good any more after the whole nuclear thing in japan. I am about 100% that that was bs to push another product though. As i dont have monsters anymore I feed twice a day, in morning and evening.

All my fish are adults now but I still feed them twice per day. I am weak and I do not want them hungry, that is my reason. I've see amazing growth rate since and I can see that they are still growing. My fish are really thick by common standards. I want to reduce the amount of food I am giving them food or the times I am feeding them. My water changes and vacuuming is frequent because of this but I don't mind it coz my lifestyle permits it. Someday, I will be doing as the others here are doing to their fish coz I feel that is the healthy way but until then, I will feed my fish twice per day. And oh, I don't overfeed except on weekdays when I am at home. Weekdays are the day for treats.

Just based on the responses, seems like more people feed 1-3 daily more than people who fast their fish.

I usually feed 2 times a day but I also have veggies nearly constantly in the tank.

If I get home after its completely dark(I don't usually turn on my aquarium lights unless I want to watch my fish), I skip feeding for the night.

Every a couple of month or so I take a few days away from home...during those periods(up to 7 days), they don't eat.

I feed my natives every other day.
